From a newspaper article about an area college's plan to save energy/money:

The school says its an effort to save money and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The university also has asked students, faculty and staff to turn off all lights, close windows and outside doors and shut off their computers before leaving for the winter break.

Um.... DUH! why would you leave your windows or outside doors open during the middle of a midwestern winter, especially when you're leaving for a few weeks?

I feel dumb.
I've gotten a few text messages over the past few months, and I don't recognize the number they came from. doh! (and actually, those are pretty much the only texts I've gotten, as I don't text at all).

And I hope people don't get offended that I've never actually returned a text. I don't have a text plan, and don't really want to drive up the bill (though I'm sure the charge for texts aren't THAT much, but with cell companies, who knows.) I wonder if my cell company charges for incoming texts too (which is kind of dumb, since you can't decline a text, like you can refuse to answer an incoming call)

The company that owns the local affiliates for FOX and CBS is squabbling with one of the cable companies that services the area, and they're saying that unless a new contract is negotiated, the cable company will not be allowed to include those two channels in their cable lineup. (basically, they want the cable company to pay more money).

Actually, I should say they are squabbling AGAIN, as they went through the same thing a few years ago, though they came to some sort of agreement just before the Super Bowl of that year.

Now why they same company owns the local affiliates of TWO different major networks is beyond me. But anyway.

The squabbling doesn't affect me at all, as I'm on a different cable company. It's just interesting to watch.

Of course, the people with that cable company could always reconfigure their TVs to just get those two channels over-the-air (regular broadcast), but many consider that too much of a hassle. Plus, I'm guessing most of those people don't have digital TV tuners (or converter boxes), and thus wouldn't be able to get the over-the-air signal, since the broadcasts switched over from analog to digital.

Basically, I'm rambling. Cuz I'm bored.

I suppose I should start my "christmas" shopping pretty soon.
Either tommorrow after work, or thursday morning.

Normally, I get the people that I'm required to buy for gift cards to some place where they frequently shop, and then I wrap them up with candy or some other snack or something.

This year, I'm not going to bother with snacks. Just gonna go with gift cards in envelopes.

One thing I hate about my job,
is that it goes from super super slow in late November and most of December,
to super super busy starting right after Christmas.

And to make it worse, my schedule is chock full of inventories that I hate (convenience stores and gift stores. Ugh.)

it's always kind of gross when you look in a mirror,
only to see that someone had supernova'd a big ole zit, with the aftereffects splattered all over the glass.

Watching an interesting program on Discovery Channel called Snowblind.
It's about a young woman, Rachael Scdoris, who is legally blind (not completely blind, but 20/200 vision and totally color blind) who runs the Iditarod dogsled race.

Hahaha.
This girl (college aged female) just walked into the house.
I was in my room watching TV and heard the door open, and just figured it was my sister or something. But then she said something and I didn't recognize the voice.

So I step out into the hall (happened to be wearing a sweatshirt, and boxers. haha) to see who it was. She asked if Neesha (Neisha?) lived here. I've never heard of a Neesha, so I told her that she had the wrong house.

Don't know if she was drunk (celebrating being finished with semester finals or something), or just confused. But I got a kick out of it.

Some of the dumb yokels in "Where the Heart Is" are hilarious.

okay, so it's not so hilarious towards the end. It just turns into what is looking like a horrid Lifetime Network type movie. Ick.

While I somewhat regret the effect it has had on brick-and-mortar video stores,
I do have to admit to really liking Redbox, at least on the rare occasions I get the hankering to rent a newer-release DVD.

I also like certain other types of red boxes, but that is a different discussion.

Our cat has some attitude problems.

Most annoying is her habit of peeing, particularly on beds, but also at times elsewhere.
My brother's bed is where she'll go most frequently, and also quite often on my sister's bed. She normally doesn't on mine, but there have been a few instances (including tonight).
And it's not like she doesn't know where the litter pan is, as she uses it most of the time (and it gets scooped/changed regularly, so that's not the issue).

Also, she has a tendancy to bite. Not overly hard, but sometimes she will draw blood. Doesn't really bother me, but it's not really the best of behavior.

I have an interview for a contractor position tomorrow. Any last minute advice for someone who has never been a contractor before? (like how much to charge etc)

One of the local grocery chains has a new holiday TV ad out.
And the majority of it features shots of happy, smiling employees doing their jobs,
which of course heavily features lots of good looking young ladies, because that's just a basic good PR move.

Anyhow, one scene features a young woman, presumably stocking the produce section, where she holds up a zucchini (or other similarly shaped vegetable), and gets this big grin on her face.
And I busted out laughing, because you know where my mind went with that. haha.

I keep seeing this ad in various spots on LiveJournal.

And it's really dumb. Because not only is it hawking some bogus weight loss drug/system/whatever, but it is obviously not the same person in both pictures.

Plus, in my opinion, the girl in the "before" pic looks a heck of alot better than the "after" pic. The "after" chick just looks wierd.

But anyway.

what the hell is up with the Arizona Cardinals tonight?

I had a meeting for work and couldn't watch the first part of the game, so when I heard that AZ was down 17-0, I figured maybe Warner had gotten hurt (thus leading to the lack of offense). But I get home and see that that isn't the case. Ugh.

[i]glasspinata: When things are suddenly very different from what they were before.

Oh.

I guess when it was her birthday in August I recognized that there was a strikethrough on her name on the "LJ Birthdays" list. I chalked it up to a fucking cruel, ironic internet thing and left it at that. I didn't realize she was... gone. And I didn't expect it would be such a shock to find her journal this way.

I still miss her. Probably more than I should.
